“I have lost over 80 pounds and feel so fabulous!!”
I came to Kat as a 60 year old Grandmother and nurse who was extremely overweight, in constant joint pain, unable to walk for any distance at all, and sad and unhappy with myself. I was referred to Kat by my daughter and decided to give her a call just to see what is her program was all about. As I scheduled the consultation I was very skeptical. As a nurse I was worried about eating any “weird” food, being on a diet that consisted of limited food choices and tons of supplements, or worse, not even liking this unknown person on the telephone. From the first conversation I knew I was working with a professional that I could trust with my health journey. Kat was warm and engaging, extremely knowledgeable, and the best listener I have ever encountered. She accepted me at the exact place I was in my life and worked to help me identify my goals and aspirations for change.
Her plans were very simple in their content and directly tied to the each of goals we laid out together. At every step she outlined short term goals and the small baby steps I needed to implement to achieve those goals. It was not a quick fix, and certainly required trust and work on my part, but Kat made it seem doable and was a great cheerleader at every turn. I was eating “real” food from a regular grocery but preparing it differently and certainly learning to “listen to my body” as Kat always advises. Kat provided homework and information to read to teach me about overall health and fitness as well as how my body manages food and nutrients. This background helped me to understand how to better manage my food and activity as this journey progessed.
Kat is a wonderful teacher and each step of the journey involved the scientific basis for her recommendations for me and the exact steps I could take to get to the next goal. She encouraged me to include movement into my life but I was very resistant for several months. She gently and kindly continued to bring that to the forefront of her recommendations and I finally started some short walks only a couple days a week to see what happened. After just a couple of months I was asking Kat to help me find a trainer or gym to move me to the next level! I am now a real gym rat!
After 15 months I have lost over 80 pounds and feel so fabulous -it is amazing! My life has completely changed both physically and mentally. I am obviously much more mobile, stronger, take no medications at all for joint pain, and now feel positive and peaceful with myself. I certainly worked hard and it took time, but without a fabulous coach and now friend, this would not have happened in my life!
The best thing that Kat has taught me is that I’m worth the effort! Her patience, soft encouragement and consistent listening and teaching has inspired me to keep working. She has been an amazing change agent for me and I love continuing my journey!
“I have lost over 40lbs and 15% body fat and have maintained the results!!”
Over the past several months, you have seen me go from an out-of-shape, overweight guy who could barely complete a 1 mile run, to completing several Spartan races and a half marathon. I have lost over 40lbs and 15% body fat and maintained it.
You opened my eyes to nutrition, fitness and a healthy lifestyle, something I thought I did pretty well on my own, but boy was I wrong!
Kat, as I reflect on this new person I have become, I realize that you have done more than just get me into shape. You have pressed my beyond my self-inflicted, imaginary limits to see that the right mindset and a little perseverance, you can achieve anything. The lesson that goes far beyond our twice weekly, 50 minute sessions and has permeated into all aspects of my life.
My path of apparent, but subconscious self-destruction has been routed to a path of fitness, health and greater happiness. I owe a lot of that success to you and your ability to inspire, push, joke and ultimately transform the old me into a new me.
Kat, I am forever changed, thanks to you!
“I left our weekly workout sessions feeling strong, energized and capable of anything – both physically and mentally.”
While I’ve made it a point on my own to keep active for the last few years, I’ve had a love/hate relationship with food my entire life, so going into this, I knew there was a lot of baggage to sort through. Kat really took the time to get to know me, my mindset, my struggles and my goals. She broke everything down into smaller mini-goals that we could focus on and tackle at a manageable pace without being unrealistic, but still pushing me just enough out of my comfort zone that I could succeed. Even when I felt I had failed, she put me right back on track and could not have been more supportive, flexible or encouraging.
It was the same when we trained weekly in the gym. I thought I had been pushing myself when working out at home, but Kat showed me what it meant to really push my limits. She challenged me hard enough that I would just start to doubt myself a little (and curse in my head maybe once or twice, haha!), but she also knew I would be able to complete the challenge and come out feeling like a rock star afterwards.
Workouts with her were never repetitive. She constantly changed it up and introduced different exercises and circuits. Our time together was always incredibly efficient, but it also flew by because she’s such a delight to be around. In between reps and circuits, our conversations jumped from nerding out on workout chat to personal stories to mini-therapy sessions. I left our weekly workout sessions feeling strong, energized and capable of anything – both physically and mentally.
Then, when I would work out on my own the rest of the week, she became the little angel (…or was it the devil? ) on my shoulder. I could hear her words of encouragement in that charming Australian accent, so I would up my weights a little more or try to squeeze in a few more reps during the next round.
The weekly homework challenges she gave me always related to something she knew I was struggling with or wanting to tackle, either food-related or physically. While sometimes I dreaded it (how many burpees can you do in three minutes?), I knew she was challenging me for my own benefit. She taught me that your mind is your only limit and that I could smash whatever boundaries I thought I had.
Through all of this, I never felt as though I was being judged for my shortcomings, but rather that she genuinely cared and wanted me to get to my best self. I could not be more grateful for the education, encouragement and friendship I’ve gained over the last year from Kat.
“I never would have had the physical capabilities or confidence to complete Spartan races without Kat’s training!!”
I have been training with Kat on a weekly basis for over 2 years and my physical fitness has improved tremendously. At 30 years old, I am in the best shape of my life thanks to Kat. She is great at motivating me in the gym so I get the most out of my workouts. In addition to creating awesome workouts, she gives me great advice on nutrition. Her nutritional direction has helped me live a healthier lifestyle and maximize my efforts in the gym in order to see great results.
In January, Kat formed a Spartan team with a goal of completing a Spartan Sprint in April. She created functional based training sessions and also group and team building workouts to prepare us for the race. Having such a great trainer prepared the team so well that the race was a breeze. We decided to take our efforts to the next level and run a Spartan Super, which we just completed in August. I never would have had the physical capabilities or confidence to complete these races without Kat’s training!
